May was born in Jigalong in 1952 and raised by missionaries. She went to school there starting at the age of 6 and finishing at the age of 16. There were lots of people there, but it was smaller than it is now. May was given away to a man and has three children who are all grown up now. She also has six grandchildren. May now lives in Newman and looks after some of her grandchildren.
