Public Program: We don't need a map at Moree Plains

Moree Plains Gallery

Saturday 13 June | From 10am | Moree Plains Gallery | 25 Frome Street Moree NSW

Celebrate the opening of We don’t need a map: A Martu experience of the Western Desert at the Moree Plains Gallery with a free day of public programs.

  • Meet the artists: Join the Martu Mob in a discussion of their country, culture and art.
  • Basket Weaving Workshop: Learn traditional weaving techniques from the artists.
  • Children’s Activities: Fun art activities for kids.
  • Meet the Martu Rangers: Learn about how they care for country.

Celebrating the distinct visual language of the Martu, the traditional owners of a vast area of Western Australia’s Western Desert, this multi-faceted exhibition explores the Martu’s deeply embedded understanding and layered interpretations of the land. Far more than just a static collection of Martu art, We don’t need a map invites audiences to actively engage with Martu culture, Martu people, their way of life and the way they care for country and belong to it. We don't need a map will be shown for the first time at the Moree Plains Gallery.
